Privacy Policy

DRAFT – needs review by a Jamaican attorney before publishing. This text is a starting point only and is not legal advice.

Last updated: [date]. This policy explains how the Jamaica Mathematics Network (“JMN”) collects and uses personal data, in line with the Jamaica Data Protection Act, 2020. Data controller: Jamaica Mathematics Network, [registered address], jamaicamathsnetwork@gmail.com. [Name of Data Protection Officer, if required.]

What we collect

Account details (name, email, member type, school or organisation); profile information you choose to add (photo, parish, subjects, what you need help with, contact details); for students, date of birth and a copy of your student ID; for students under 18, a parent or guardian’s email and their consent; organisation logos and recruiter verification details; content you post (questions, answers, services, requests, research, messages); booking and payment records (payments are handled by our payment provider – we do not store card numbers); and basic technical data such as IP address and cookies needed to keep you signed in.

Why we use it

To run your account and the network (contract); to check student and recruiter identity and keep young people safe (legitimate interests and legal obligations); to process fees and bookings (contract); to send account and safety emails; and, with your consent, to send news about JMN. We do not sell personal data.

Children

For members under 18 we ask for a parent or guardian’s consent, hide their contact details and date of birth from other members, hide their profiles from recruiters and visitors, and limit who can message them. Student ID images are stored privately and seen only by JMN administrators.

Who sees your data

Other members see the profile information you choose to show. JMN administrators can see account and verification details. We use service providers for hosting, email delivery and payments, who process data only on our instructions. We may disclose data where required by law.

How long we keep it

While your account is open, and for a limited time afterwards where needed for legal, accounting or safety reasons. Student ID images are deleted once verification is no longer needed [set period].

Your rights

Under the Data Protection Act you can ask to access your data, correct it, object to certain uses, withdraw consent, and ask us to stop processing or delete it. Email jamaicamathsnetwork@gmail.com. You may also complain to the Office of the Information Commissioner (Jamaica).

Security and transfers

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect data. Our hosting and some providers are located outside Jamaica; we take steps to make sure your data stays protected when transferred.

Cookies

We use cookies needed to keep you signed in and remember invite links, plus basic site statistics. [List any analytics or advertising cookies.]

Changes

We will post any changes here and tell members about important ones.
